Just after the end of the 1914-18 war it was decided to build a Men's Institute in memory of those local men who had lost their lives.

This was built at the entrance of the village on the Holsworthy road (where the house 'Janaleen' now stands).

The Men's Memorial Institute was opened in 1923.

It boasted a good skittle alley, a billiards table, and a table tennis table. Draughts were very popular.

There was also a reading room which had its own library and daily papers - a coal fire made this a popular place on a cold winter's evening.
